Hello everyone sorry we have been so quiet here the past month. Things got really rough here financially and the weather here wasn't much better. For those that do not know I have young onset parkinson's and dystonia. Both are progressive condition's and they get worse year after year. For me it's been 9 years now. Winter and cold is not a friend for me and this winter really took it's toll. This page is about our business but at the same time it is also about us as a family as well. That includes my illness and our rescued babies as well. While we won't post every day about what I go through etc with my illness, sometimes we will talk about it here once in awhile. One reason is just simply for awareness of what Parkinson's and Dystonia is and what it does. Over the past 9 years one thing that has surprised me the most is that so many have no idea what either of these illness are or how they affect the people that have them. Unless you say Micheal J Fox or they have someone in their family that has it, people have not a clue what these illness are. The biggest misconception is that you have to be old to have parkinson's. Not true at all. I was 42 when diagnosed with this, my mother was also in her 40's and had it for over 20 years before she passed. This is not just an older person's illness, over the years I ran into people in even their teens that have it. The other big misconception I've come across is that parkinson's is only about having tremors. Again not true. Parkinson's can cause you to have many different health problems depending on the person. No person is the same it affects every one of us in a different way. Some with PD never have tremors at all. Dystonia is another monster in itself. A lot of people that have parkinson's also have Dystonia, but you do not have to have PD to have it either. There are many different types of Dystonia. Mine is called General Dystonia because it affects me all over. Dystonia cause extreme muscle spasms, that twist and pull. They can last from minutes to days. Think of your worst ever Charley horse and than imagine instead of just your toes it's in your arms, legs, ribs etc and instead of it last just a bit it goes on for hours and days at a time. I get it worse in my legs than anywhere else, sometimes to the point that they are so twisted I cannot walk on my own. The cold this past month made this all worse for me than normal but I got through it and hopefully spring is on it's way soon. If you'd like to know more about these illness please check out the sites listed at the bottom of this post for more information. I promise to try to not be such a stranger and post more here in the weeks to come. Hope everyone had a great Valentines Day. Stay warm, more to come soon.
